CODELOCKS Survey Reveals A Need For More Access Control In Buildings

Codelocks, a leading manufacturer of standalone access control products, has established that there is a growing need to control access within buildings. As part of a market research programme, the company undertook a survey of buying habits which revealed that 57% of respondents needed more access control in their buildings today, compared to three years ago.

Respondents to the survey, who came from a wide range of market sectors including education, healthcare, retail and sports and leisure, cited the need to restrict public access to buildings as the main reason for the increase in demand for access control.

“We have seen year-on-year growth in demand for our keyless access control products and now have a better understanding of what’s driving that demand,” explained Grant Macdonald, managing director, Codelocks. “Fortunately, electronic and mechanical push-button locks give people a way of implementing access control very quickly and cost-effectively. Doing away with keys is flagged up as a major benefit in many applications.”

The survey revealed that the increased need for access control is not only for the protection of people, but also for the protection of belongings, equipment, hazardous materials and confidential information. Many people referred to an increase in the level of threat from crime and see access control as a way to deter theft. In recent years there has also been greater emphasis on the need to create safe and secure environments for children and vulnerable adults. Providing access control in schools and on hospital wards, for example, can help achieve this.

The survey was completed by over 250 people and Codelocks would like to thank everyone who took part. Codelocks will be exhibiting a range of push-button door and cabinet locks on stand number 120 at MLA Expo from 9th-11th September, The International Centre, Telford.
