DANFOSS VLT® HVAC Drive – Leading The Way For Over 25 Years

Benefit from our experience & contribute to the environment

Danfoss VLT Drives® launch new “EC+ concept”

In order to discuss how new EC technology can ensure optimum efficiency in your system design, please visit us on Stand 2808 in Hall 6 during the Energy Event 2011; where our technical experts will be on hand to demonstrate how installation of the VLT® frequency converter series of drives can provide significant energy saving performance with immediate results.

Considered the benchmark for dedicated HVAC applications for many years, Danfoss continues to be the pioneer for energy applications where initial capital cost and lowest cost of ownership are key motivators.

1.5 Million VLT® HVAC Drives have been installed in HVAC systems all over the world, since the mid nineties, when Danfoss introduced the first dedicated HVAC frequency converter into the market.

345 million megawatt hours is the estimated savings for installed VLT® HVAC Drives, this equates to approximately 202 million tonnes of CO2 saved.

With the Danfoss EC+ concept, the system efficiency in standard ventilation applications is taken to the highest level by using the new control algorithm in the VLT® HVAC Drive for controlling permanent magnet motors (PM motors).

By using the well known and proven voltage vector mode in the Danfoss VLT® HVAC Drive, the same dynamic performance and minimised loss is achievable when controlling PM motors as has always been the case with standard induction motors.

Tests have proven efficiencies above 90% from drive input to motor shaft output in a large part of the speed control range, which is a significant improvement and therefore a clear cost optimiser in operation budgets compared to existing induction motor systems.

Compared to other speed controllable high efficiency motor systems, the Danfoss flexible EC+ concept allows the system designer to choose the most efficient single components thereby ensuring the highest overall system efficiency.

By using Danfoss VLT® HVAC Drives and a PM motor with a shaft in IEC design, any fan wheel can be used. The well known VLT® HVAC Drive control options are still available with a number of field bus options and BMS communication.

Advantages of the EC+ concept

■ Free choice of motor technology: PM or asynchronous with the same frequency converter

■ Device installation and operation remain unchanged in the choice of all components independent of manufacturer

■ Superior system efficiency thanks to a combination of individual components with optimum efficiency
