LOWARA UK - Electric Motors Are To Get An Efficiency Shake-Up Across Europe & Lowara Are Ready...

Electric motors are at the heart of most of Lowara's pump ranges, and changes to the European regulations will lead to a number of enhancements in our products.

The changes have come about through the EU MEPS scheme European Minimum Energy Performance Standards. These set out minimum efficiency levels for electric motors introduced into the European market.

The overall aim of the scheme is to reduce energy consumption and other negative environmental impacts of energy-using products. And Lowara has led the way in this area by adopting the voluntary codes on motor efficiency which precede the new mandatory guidelines.

From 16 June 2011 a new high efficiency standard (IEC/EN 60034-30:2008) will be introduced, called IE2. IE2 will be mandatory for single speed, squirrel cage induction motors, with 2, 4 or 6 poles, rated voltage up to 1000V, 3-phase motors from 0.75kW to 375kW (rating based on continuous duty).

IE2 is similar to the EFF1 standard Lowara uses today, and we'll ensure all our motors comply with the mandatory regulations. There will be some part number changes, and some ranges will use a different motor family but Lowara will make the changes simple and straightforward, and any users can be assured that our products meet this new standard in advance of the deadline. In fact, our range of SMP and PLM motors have been IE2 compliant from 2nd May 2011, and any outsourced motors by 1st June 2011.

Premium efficiency motors will be called IE3, and guidelines for the introduction of IE3 motors in the 7.5kW to 375kW range are not due to come into force until 2015.

For more information on the IE2 regulation and our motor efficiency, please contact Lowara's UK head office in Axminster by email below:
