FRENGER SYSTEMS - 'Radiant / Convective' Passive Chilled Beams To The New Regional Headquarters Building For Veolia Environmental Ltd

Frenger have been awarded the contract to supply 'Radiant / Convective' passive chilled beam to the new regional headquarters building for Veolia Environmental Ltd. The new 40,000 sq ft, 3 storey BREEAM Excellent office building, located on the prestigious Kingswood Lakeside development in Cannock is due for completion during the summer of 2011 and will include environmental features such as roof-mounted solar panels, rainwater collection and energy saving light sensors in addition to the low energy comfort cooling "Radiant" chilled beams.

The 'Radiant / Convective' passive chilled beams were selected to provide comfort cooling to the open plan office areas due to the exceptional thermal comfort levels and low energy consumption provided by the system. By utilising a 35% radiant component, the system can provide high levels of cooling without the draughts associated with traditional fin coil battery systems. This unique 'Radiant' component also allows the use of low free area ceiling tiles, as low as 22% open area with same perforation hole sizes as small 1.5 mm diameter whilst maintaining cooling to the occupied zone. Fresh air will be introduced to the space via low level floor grilles, adding to the exceptional indoor environment.

Carat chilled beams are designed to operate at elevated chilled water temperatures (typically 14 - 18 Deg C), facilitating designers to look at renewable technologies such as ground source, cooling towers and free cooling chillers. By operating the chiller plant at elevated temperatures its co-efficient of performance (COP) is increased and energy consumption reduced. The efficiency of the compressor can be increased by using a dry cooling system (inlet water 14 Deg C instead of 7 Deg C) with a percentage increase in COP of typically 22%.

Frenger Systems offer a full range of active, passive and Multi Service Beams, Lighting and Water & Electric driven radiant heating systems from its 'State of the Art' technical facility in Derby. The company supply equipment world wide and have their products and solutions installed in over 15 different countries.
