DORMA Launches Swing Door Operators With Innovative Wind-Load Control

DORMA is set to launch two new automatic electromechanical swing door operators, designed to provide more efficient closing of doors under strong wind conditions. The DORMA ED 100A and ED 250A are equipped with wind-load control that recognises and compensates wind loads of up to 150 N, generating double the closing force of automatic electrohydraulic closers to ensure doors close properly to minimise heat loss and unauthorised entry.

The ED 100A and ED 250A are from DORMA’s range of swing door operators for use on doors of various sizes and weights. Simply select the suitable version according to your prevailing door-leaf width and weight. While the ED 100A is suitable for doors with a weight of up to 100 kg and a door width of up to 1,100 mm, the ED 250A is designed for doors with a width of up to 1,600 mm and a door weight of up to 250 kg. Both operators may be installed as push-version with standard arm and as pull-version with slide channel.

With the ED 250A set to be officially unveiled at Ecobuild 2011, both products will further enhance DORMA’s reputation as the global market leader of door controls, automatics, glass and movable walls.

Traditional swing doors are often exposed to wind loads, affecting the doors’ abilities to close properly. When fitted with electrohydraulic operators, the doors still cannot respond to changing weather conditions as closing forces are dependent on set spring force adjustments. This leads to the loss of heated internal air, unauthorised entry and unpredictable driving speeds. With the DORMA ED 100A and ED 250A, these issues are resolved.

The new system is also compatible with infrared safety sensors. However, on a standard installation IRS safety sensors continue to use power over a 24-hour period when mains power is not turned off. However, using the integrated Energy Saving Mode (ESM), all connected infrared safety sensors (IRS-4) are automatically switched to Stand-By Mode as soon as the program switch is adjusted to the OFF position. This feature can reduce energy consumption by up to 30% compared to previous DORMA systems.

The slender design uses almost 40% less material, when compared to DORMA’s previous generations of electrohydraulic door operators. By combining the lightweight module with integrated wind-load control system, this helps to reduce unnecessary CO2 emissions in the shipping of goods, as well as the reduction of air lost from the building.

The ED 250A swing door operator will be officially launched at Ecobuild 2011, held at the ExCeL exhibition and conference centre in London, between 1st – 3rd March. For more information on DORMA’s range of automatic door closer products visit www.dormashow.com/automatics.
