TROX UK - Low Ceilings No Problem For New Trox High Capacity Active Chilled Beam

A new launch from TROX UK makes it possible to improve air handling and energy efficiency significantly, even where low false ceiling voids would previously have ruled out active chilled beams.

The new DID632 active chilled beam from TROX has a height of only 210mm, making it ideal for use in new or existing buildings with clear room heights of 2.6m to 4m. It is designed for rooms with a high cooling load, and combines optimum comfort conditions with outstanding energy efficiency. The cooling capacity is even higher than its predecessor (the DID 600B), at a lower rate of primary air flow (maximum of 2,500 watts at 70 l/s). This is made possible by optimised nozzle configuration and unit geometry which delivers an increased capacity from a more compact chilled beam unit.

Air velocity in the occupied zone is reduced due to adjustable blades which control the direction of the air discharge. The DID632 also incorporates features for quiet and extremely reliable operation.

Four different induced air grille designs enable the specifier opportunities to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the ceiling space with standard product lines.

There is also a choice of two types of heat exchanger. One is a two pipe system for cooling, which enables heating to be provided using a changeover mode. The other is a four pipe system which enables any room to be cooled or heated independently of other rooms. Eight nominal lengths, each having four different nozzle options, make it possible to select the optimum unit to meet the air flow rate and thermal capacity requirements of the room, with the lowest air differential pressures and minimum sound power levels.

Operation
Active chilled beams supply conditioned fresh air (primary air) to the space from a central plant room to maintain indoor air quality. At the same time, additional cooling/heating is provided using heat exchangers.

The DID632 discharges primary air into the beam mixing chamber via nozzles. As a result, secondary air is induced (via an inlet grille) and passes through a heat exchanger into the mixing chamber. Here it is mixed with the primary air, and the total supply air is discharged horizontally into the space through integral slot diffusers.
