Dewsbury-based Rixonway Kitchens has supported a local community
group, Women First, with the donation of a large kitchen to become
the central point for inter-community discussion and education in
Women First is part of the Addas Centre in Ravensthorpe and has strong links with the local community improving the quality of life and self esteem of its members with low level mental health issues through training, education and recreation.
Leading social housing kitchen manufacturer Rixonway Kitchens knows that interaction is important for maintaining community communication and good health, and the kitchen is at the heart of this.
Sughara from Women First, said: “Kitchens and hospitality play a key role in the centre’s activity so we are hugely grateful for this essential donation. We have recently started a healthy eating course to aid women in the community to learn about nutrition in food allowing them to support their own and their family’s health and well being. It is well known that healthy eating combined with exercise plays a large role in alleviating depression and other mental health issues.”
Nick Greenall, Operations Director at Rixonway Kitchens, said: “We work hard to support the communities in which we work. This can be through supporting local charities, tackling worklessness and reducing our environmental impact in the region.
“Women First not only enhances the lives of women in Ravensthorpe and promotes understanding between different groups in the community, the centre acts as a point for people to meet, learn and engage with one and other.”
The group was established in 2009 by Sughara and Hawa who wanted to do something positive to support women with low level mental health issues such as anxiety or confidence issues living and working within the community. The name was chosen as many women put others - children, husband, family - first and the idea was that they should make themselves and their positive social efforts the priority in order to be a better mother, wife or daughter.
Rixonway’s work with Women First is the latest activity in the company’s corporate social responsibility programme that sees it working with a number of organisations to make sustainable communities such as The Harrogate Homeless Project and the Wellington Hill Residents Association in Leeds.
